Rabbi Bertram Kieffer
I'm very happy to welcome you to our very special spiritual home- Temple Beth Zion. We're a relatively small Shul in numbers but we make up for that by the size of our hearts. We're a mixture of people who are interested in learning about our Jewish heritage, living in a way that brings God into our lives, and, together with our fellow Jews, trying to perform acts of loving kindness as the cornerstone of the way we live our lives.
We happen to be in a physical location that is poised for growth. The surrounding area is comprised of a broad spectrum of individuals ranging from young families who are in need of a synagogue in which to rear their children with a love for Judaism to retirees who are looking for adult education opportunities and interesting programming. You will find all of that and more here at Temple Beth Zion. Our congregational family is made up of families with young children, singles, retirees, baby boomers, snowbirds, Jews by birth and Jews by choice, and members who are part of interfaith families. Our members live in Royal Palm Beach, Wellington, the Acreage, Lake Worth, West Palm Beach, Loxahatchee, and other neighboring towns. As Rabbi, I view my role as a facilitator of your Jewish journey. I'll try to help you in your quest by pointing out in a D'var Torah, for example, the relevance today of some ancient tradition. In an age when there are many stresses on all of us, I may be that individual with whom you feel free to counsel for help in coping with a personal or family issue. I may be that someone with whom you can talk about your struggles with your Jewish identity (and in doing so, you'll learn that I struggle, too!). Or, maybe, when you find out that I love music and have served several synagogues as a Cantor, you'll want to rehearse a little and sing a duet with me at one of our participatory religious services or perhaps, as part of a musical concert at the synagogue. Our Shul boasts a highly successful preschool and summer camp with a considerable waiting list and a full school wing ready to service many new religious school youngsters. We also offer a Young Judaea youth group, a soothing Sanctuary with built in flexibility of use and a strictly kosher kitchen. Our religious services feature both traditional and alternative styles of worship as part of our Synaplex program including periodic "Vibe" services, featuring joyous rock and "pop" treatments of the prayers. You'll find within these walls a warm and involved membership with dedicated volunteers and lay leaders. At TBZ, you'll find many opportunities for learning and participating through adult education classes and special programming, concerts and scholar in residence programs. If you're new to the area-Welcome! If you've been here a while and never thought of affiliating with a synagogue, we urge you to come and visit us and find what we have found here in Royal Palm Beach. We have found our Jewish home-Temple Beth Zion. The only thing missing is you. Come join our family! B'Shalom Rabbi K |
